about

Twin Ponies Phoenix, Arizona

Twin Ponies is an alternative rock band from Tempe, Arizona that began making music in the summer of 2013. Their sound has been described by Phoenix New Times as “almost comforting yet distinctly uneasy… [with] twisting meters and sudden key changes.” They attempt to use enough familiar forms to ground the music so that it can lean out over the edge without falling off. ... more

Track Name: Southern Pacific / Domino
Southern Pacific
everyone you know loves or has loved a purist and that’s when all of this began without me knowing it thoughts had flossed the cracks of my brain and then I spit out some blood mostly red mostly saliva and then had nothing to show for it
so i carried the ones I carried the one over and often and held them close to my chest and laid them down in a row and waited for the train but it never came thought I was a switchman for the southern pacific line with not enough coal in that engine with all the other trains in the yard what can I say other than I like hats
//
Domino
crawling under the words that he said then climbing out I gave up way too easily a domino embrace what you have made or destroy but don’t confuse it. don’t confuse it now while you’re still around don’t confuse it process backwards your whole life crawling under the words that he said a domino and when my friends start to worry I can still show all my teeth don’t confuse it don’t confuse it now while you’re still around don’t confuse it running backwards your whole life climbing up
Track Name: Losing Out
Losing Out
I’m losing out I’m losing out with no worries now take out the trash when you go folks throwing down where I throw up and you’ll be there too I’m losing out just put me down take out the trash I’m losing out
I’m losing out I’m punching down with broken teeth I’m smiling still jump in the trash fire where treasures bloom wrists floating off with big balloons i’m losing out my eyes are packed they weigh like planets bodies filled with gases eating off the ground
I’m losing out just put me down when you go folks throwing down where I throw up and you’ll be there too I’m losing out take out the trash I’m losing out
Track Name: Ticklish
Ticklish
I used to think that an unwanted tickle was something to flee or believe and there where you left it what did it mean
it was your friend at the end obviously what did you tell them I used to think put my body on credit and my blood in savings to glean it was an idea worth propagating my heart in the bank under inflation
Track Name: LWN MWR
LWN MWR
I’m coming out the other side feeling desperate I had no idea that I could be such a funny guy my drain is full of rocks so I lick them to pop a mouth of crowded little teeth chewing in the dark on a mess of lightly bittered truths that don’t add up shine a light to give some real depth to this dark mess there’s no need to worry when you’re taking more than you could ever give back then feeling like poorly washed recycling thought you were on a roll but then you got passed up by a tumble weed all your crayons oozing in the summer sun dragged by the ankle on the slowest spiral feeling like a crumbled up one-hundred dollar bill thought you were on a roll but then you got stuck behind some asshole in a camper
Track Name: Broken Ankle
Broken Ankle
I watch you play with a broken ankle but you keep scoring I sit on the sidelines to cheer you on now gently fading out you don’t need me you don’t need anyone trust yourself don’t like what you see break your glasses poison lenses you slip like an earthquake all your tremors my hands shaking how you squeezed them you don’t need me you don’t need anyone trust yourself
Track Name: Always A Ways Away
Always a ways away
always a ways away when you’re working through your days in your daze then you fire a warning shot a marinade of mental glaze plus time spent licking your fingers clean different fountains within me taking too much coin and overflowing my needs and chlorinated wishes just biting my lip like Darrell Hammond doing Bill Clinton and giving thumbs up hey that works for me I’ll just be happy to be glad and though you know you’ll have to pay through your nose guess I’ll just thank my folks
Track Name: Groaned
Groaned
I cannot believe how you groaned came to pick me up and take me home bit into the bones of an apple its tendons filled my cheeks as we talked the dust will spit me up when I’m gone absorbing what I was and was not
